attack on titan episode 40

Watch Attack on Titan Season 3 Episode 40, Old Story, on Crunchyroll. Historia and Erwin look back on their past, revealing a shady.

and   you   season episode

She was born on a small farm in the Northern region of Wall Rose, on land owned by the Reiss family. She helped out there as far as she could remember. However, she did no housework and only read from books each day. When Historia learned to read, write, and imitate her mom, she saw how alone she really was doing this. Even with a bloody nose, Historia was very happy, as that was the first thing her mom ever did with her.

But the article on Reiss was so convoluted that I gave up a paragraph or two in. This is the challenge of season three, when action largely comes to a halt—how can the anime make these conspiracy theories, involving new characters and old, captivating and memorable? Still…I find it difficult to love her character, to feel for her even knowing her tragic background. I think of it this way: this whole world of Attack on Titan is full of tragedy, so how can I feel special sympathy for Historia? The thing is…some people do feel a kinship with Historia. Some people have been betrayed and hurt by their mothers, abandoned by their fathers, and have hidden their true personalities for a variety of reasons.

Historia recounts the circumstances of how she grew up on a farm as an unwanted child with a distant mother.

Miss my review last week? You can find it here! Last week, Eren and Historia were captured by government forces and Levi came under attack from Kenny, his old mentor. After battling through Trost, the scouts—minus Eren and Historia—captured two members of the Military Police Interior Squad and tortured them for information. They learned Historia was in fact the true heir to the royal line and the family of Lord Rod Reiss.

Poor Historia. We begin with her recounting that until she was old enough to read and write, Historia didn't even realize that mothers were supposed to be attentive, caring, or loving at all. It wasn't until fictional stories about mothers and daughters showed her what her own life lacked that Historia could recognize that something wasn't right. With no father around and a mother who seemed content to ignore Historia's existence, the young girl simply had no frame of reference for a maternal relationship, and so Historia flings herself at her mother to see for herself how a hug could possibly feel. It's tragic enough that the woman tosses her daughter away with enough force to give her a nosebleed, but the real kicker comes when young Historia lights up in unrestrained glee, since she's ecstatic to have any manner of interaction with her mother at all.
